Helping Those with XP (Xeroderma Pigmentosum)
XP (xeroderma pigmentosum, or XP), is a rare, genetic, life-threatening sensitivity to sunlight. Suntrol has been helping protect XP children with UV/solar control Window Film for Sun Protection for decades. Protecting XP patients from the sun (photoprotection) has been shown to reduce pigmented spots and skin cancers, and dramatically increase life expectancy. If you know an XP family that needs help, call us.
According to RareDiseases.com: XP is a rare inherited skin disorder characterized by a heightened sensitivity to the DNA-damaging effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. People with XP have a 10,000-fold increased risk for developing skin cancer including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. They also have a 2000-fold increased risk for cancer of the eye and surrounding ocular tissues. These symptoms appear early in life, typically before age 10 years. In addition, approximately 25% of XP patients also develop abnormalities of the nervous system manifesting as progressive neurodegeneration with hearing loss. The main source of UV is the sun.
